Our Story

It all began with a long run….

The Amazing Race

In the spring of 2010, "Maasai Warriors" Paul and Francis received a phone call from China to ask if they would participate in the Emmy Award-winning television series The Amazing Race, China Rush. The boarded a plane to Shanghai and along with "The Ultrarunners" Sarah & Molly who lived in China, and eight other teams from around the world, they set out in a televised amazing adventure across China.

an Amazing Marathon

While we didn’t win, teams “Maasai Warriors” and “Ultrarunners” became fast friends. We all liked to run and cared deeply about education. An idea was born to plan an endurance running event in Kenya to support the Maasai girls of their community. In the summer of 2011, the friends reunited in the Kenya for a second amazing run... this time, the Amazing Maasai Marathon. We thought this would be a one time event… and here we still are a decade later.

The Amazing Maasai Girls Project

Out of the marathon, The Amazing Maasai Girls Project was inaugurated in August 2010 with a mission to support girls’ education in the Maasai communities of Laikipia, Kenya.

Since then, we’ve raised over half a million dollars in donations, placed over 100 girls in school, developed a sustainable endowment program for future generations, and pledge that any amazing graduate who wants to go to college or continue her education after graduation, can do so.

The marathon continues to serve as the main fundraising platform, as does the Global Run and other sponsored runs.

In 2021, in partnership with WomenWin and Puma , we launched the Amazing Running Club open to all girls of the three schools in which we operate. Currently there are over 300 girls in the club who are running fierce, fast and strong.
